Delete your account
This page explains how to permanently delete your account in LYS: Daily Planner & Journal (published by Love Your Life, LLC on the App Store and Google Play), what happens to your data when you do, and how to request deletion if you no longer have the app.
The short version. Open Settings in the app, choose Your Data, then Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent: there is no grace period and no way to undo it. If you can't use the app, email hello@lysplanner.com from your account's email address and we'll take care of it.
Delete from inside the app
The app is the fastest way, and the only way that works for every kind of account:
- Open LYS and tap your profile picture to open Settings.
- Choose Your Data, then Delete account.
- The app walks you through the confirmations. If you have an active subscription, it will ask you to cancel it first, so nothing keeps billing after your account is gone. If your account has a password, you'll confirm with it.
When you confirm, your active sessions are revoked and deletion happens immediately. There is nothing further to wait for and nothing to confirm by email.
If you no longer have the app
Email hello@lysplanner.com with the subject line "Delete my account", sent from the email address your LYS account uses. We'll verify the request really comes from the account owner, delete the account, and reply to confirm it's done, usually within a few business days.
If you used LYS without creating an account (no email and password): your account exists only through the app on your device, so we have no way to find it from the outside: deletion is only possible from inside the app. If you've already deleted the app, the end-to-end-encrypted content left behind is permanently unreadable by anyone, including us: the keys that could decrypt it existed only on your device.
What is deleted
Everything personal, immediately: your email, name, birthday, gender, and profile photo; the cryptographic material protecting your account; and all of your end-to-end-encrypted content: to-dos, events, dates, goals (including the habits you're quitting and any habit check-ins), notes (including their version history), and journal entries. Copies that exist in routine encrypted backups age out on their normal rotation cycle.
What is kept, and why
- Purchase and payment records are retained where the law requires it, for tax, accounting, refund, chargeback, and anti-fraud purposes, generally for up to seven years. They are kept under a legal obligation and are not used to re-identify you for any other purpose.
- Anonymous statistics (for example, a count of how many accounts signed up in a month) are kept, but they contain nothing about you personally.
- Security and operations logs are kept for up to 12 months and then deleted. They identify an account only by an internal ID and contain no email address, IP address, or content.
